We deliver academic support, violence prevention and substance misuse education, health and recreational activities, and support services to youth and families residing in Philadelphia.

PREVENTION EDUCATION SPECIALIST

Full-time Position

Salary: $36,000 - $40,000 yearly w/benefits


Position Summary:

The Prevention Education Specialist is responsible for providing violence prevention, substance misuse prevention, social-emotional development education, and fun activities to youth in a school and community-based setting as well as spreading awareness on the risks of violence, substance misuse, and other risky behaviors among youth and its effects on the community.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide evidence-based violence and/or substance misuse prevention education to youth in grades Kindergarten through 12th in school and community-based settings.
  • Engage youth in national prevention and social norm campaigns.
  • Serve as a mentor to children, teens, and young adults.
  • Plan and lead fun alternative activities for youth in the partnered schools and in the community to encourage the prevention of risky behaviors.
  • Provide summer programming to youth through partnerships with local religious institutions, libraries, park & recreation centers, and/or youth serving community agencies.
  • Engage participants in lessons and activities that will foster personal growth and development of life skills.
  • Escort and supervise youth on occasional field trips.
  • Identify youth and families in need of additional services and refer for case management services.
  • Assist with the planning and implementation of youth and family events (e.g., youth showcases, youth-led forums, community service, family fun nights, etc.).
  • Facilitate youth, parent, and community workshops on topics related to violence and/or substance misuse prevention and awareness.
  • Assist in the planning of community events.
  • Attend and represent ADAC at community events.
  • Administer pre and post surveys, gather data for required documentation, enter survey results into specific data tools, and submit in a timely manner.
  • Spread awareness on violence and substance misuse.
  • Assist the Lead Staff in the overall planning, implementation, and advancement of program objectives.
  • Other duties within reason may be added as deemed necessary by the Lead Staff to ensure quality services.



Skills and Knowledge Required:

  • An Associate’s degree in studies related to psychology, education, behavioral health, criminology, or human services, is required. A Bachelor’s degree is preferred.
  • A minimum of two years of experience working in education, youth recreation, social services, juvenile justice, and/or related fields is required. 
  • Experience working with a diverse population in an urban environment is preferred.
  • Good classroom management skills.
  • Great communication skills.
  • Creative and engaging presentation skills.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Proficient in Google Suite and Microsoft Office.


Other Requirements:

  • The candidate will need to work occasional evenings and Saturdays. 
  • Child abuse, criminal background, FBI, and sexual offender clearances will be needed.
  • Valid driver's license, car, and proof of current insurance policy for local travel to schools, community agencies, meetings, and training. If not able to use personal vehicle, will be responsible for their own transportation needs (public transportation, taxi, Uber, or Lyft)

AFTER-SCHOOL GROUP LEADER 

Part-time Position

Salary: $13- $17/hr


Position Summary: 

The After-school Group Leader will be responsible for supervising and providing programming to an assigned group of K-6th grade students at schools in Philadelphia. The Group Leader will work 15-20 hours per week between 2:30 - 6:30 pm, Monday through Friday and once a month on the school’s half days from 1:30 to 6:30 pm. The Group Leader reports to the Site Coordinator.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Create a safe and fun atmosphere for your assigned group.
  • Maintain proper supervision of your assigned group.
  • Manage student engagement and behavior using a positive, trauma-informed approach.
  • Lead and support structured, academic-oriented programming.
  • Prep and lead enrichment programming, including planned lessons and informational fun activities.
  • Facilitate grade appropriate SEL and ATOD (Alcohol, Tobacco and Other Drugs), violence, and bullying prevention evidence-base programming to the students.
  • Implement and oversee project-based learning (PBL) activities for the youth.
  • Lead regular outdoor play and activity sessions.
  • Work collaboratively with instructors, school staff, and contractors to achieve program goals.
  • Monitor and support respectful daily space use, including appropriate care and storage of program supplies and school’s property.
  • Participate in quality improvement efforts including program data collection and tracking, reflective practice, and professional development.
  • Organize and ensure all required paperwork (sign ins, PBL, etc.) is complete for program activities.
  • Communicate with families as needed in a friendly, courteous manner.
  • Collaborate with other staff for event planning, outreach efforts, and other services.
  • Take attendance, assist with the sign in/sign out process, and manage required paperwork as directed.
  • Provide constructive feedback to participants’ progress and encourage academic excellence.
  • Assist with set- up and clean- up of after- school activities as needed.
  • Operate in accordance with Philadelphia Health Department COVID safety requirements.
  • Other duties and responsibilities, within reason, may be assigned by the site director to ensure quality services

Qualifications: 

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; Bachelor’s degree preferred
  • 2 years of experience working with school- aged youth
  • Able to be physically active with and engage youth
  • Experience with urban settings and diverse populations
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and conflict resolution skills
  • First Aid Certification (Preferred)
  • Enthusiasm and dedication to improving the lives of youth and families
  • Ability to work productively as part of a team
  • Commitment to on-going growth and professional development
  • Friendly, courteous manner
  • Proficient using Google Suite, Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, email, and web searches

PREVENTION EDUCATION INTERN

Position Overview: 

ADAC is seeking an individual to serve as a Prevention Education Intern for our school and community-based prevention program. The intern will work under the supervision of the Prevention Specialist or other Lead Staff. The intern will be responsible for leading or supporting enriching activities and lessons with youth and support our outreach efforts in spreading awareness on the negative impact of substance misuse, youth violence, and other negative behaviors.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist staff with supervision and guidance of youth in the school-based or community-based program.
  • Create a safe and fun learning atmosphere for your assigned group of students.
  • Implement educational, recreational, and special activities planned by the lead staff. 
  • Manage youth participation and report learning habits to the Coordinator.
  • Gather program data & generate reports for purposes of research, Monthly/quarterly/annual reports, and grant writing.
  • Support distribution, collection, and appropriate storage of program supplies.
  • Assist with the implementation of workshops, speaking engagements, special events, and activities.
  • Perform community outreach and recruitment.
  • Develop & disseminate digital materials and update our website and/or other social media platforms.
  • Perform PR/communication and social media activities.
  • Maintain a professional rapport with children, families, and professional partners.
  • Other duties within reason may be added to ensure quality services.
  • Assist in facilitation of parent and community workshops on topics related to violence and substance misuse prevention and awareness. 

 

Qualifications:

  • Excellent attention to detail, interpersonal skills, organization, and problem solving skills. 
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills. 
  • Displays willingness to make decisions, exhibits sound and accurate judgment, and makes timely decisions.
  • Prioritizes and plans work activities, uses time efficiently, and develops realistic action plans.
  • Coursework and/or experience in childcare, youth, elementary education, behavioral health, psychology, and/or social services preferred.
  • Strong computer skills, particularly Microsoft Office and Google Drive. 
  • Child Abuse, Criminal Background, and FBI Clearances will be needed, which ADAC can help you acquire.
